The Misfits es un grupo musical de horror punk y hardcore punk formado en 1977 en la ciudad de Lodi, Nueva Jersey, liderado originalmente por el cantante Glenn Danzig y el bajista Jerry Only. La banda está enlazada al hardcore ademas de estar estrechamente relacionada por géneros como el punk rock, el thrash metal , el heavy metal, , el rock and roll , en menor medida por el rock gótico, en general. Misfits siempre ha mostrado afinidad con el público del heavy metal, debido a que sus letras y su actitud son diferentes de los que tenían los grupos de punk anteriores. Por ejemplo, la banda Metallica ha contribuído a unir al público de ambos géneros tocando versiones de Misfits en varias ocasiones. A pesar de que el grupo se separó en 1983, Jerry Only reunió a otros músicos para reformar la banda, pero sin el vocalista y fundador Glenn Danzig.

 The Misfits han sido considerados a lo largo de los últimos treinta años uno de los grupos punk y terror punk más importantes del movimiento de punk contemporáneo, siendo uno de los integrantes de la primera ola del género y difusores del mismo, y además creadores de una variante, el horror punk, que se ha desarrollado a lo largo de las dos últimas décadas. A lo largo del tiempo el grupo se ha caracterizado por componer canciones basadas en películas de terror y ciencia ficción, y por su imagen terrorífica y conflictos dentro y fuera del escenario.
